Kurt Angle has paid tribute to late One Direction singer Liam Payne after his passing earlier this week.

The WWE Hall of Famer got the chance to interact with the signing star back in 2013. It happened during One Direction’s 1D Day livestream where they promoted the Midnight Dream Album.

The band had partnered up with TNA and Angle, who was under contract with the company at the time, actually wrestled a match with Liam. Payne competed in a full body suit with a mask and he managed to defeat the Olympic Gold Medallist in the bout.

The former World Champion posted a clip of this interaction on his Twitter account and said that it was an honor to step in the ring with the late music star:

Liam Payne passed away at the age of 31 this past Wednesday, October 16. The One Direction member fell from the balcony of his room at CasaSur hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Payne first became famous when he joined the fifth season of The X Factor reality show at the age of 14. After being eliminated in the Boot Camp stage, Payne returned to the series in the seventh season.

It was during this time that Liam was paired with Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik on the suggestion of guest judge Nicole Scherzinger. The group released their debut single in September 2011 and then never looked back.
