Anna Jay has earned a shot at the AEW Women’s World Championship after defeating Mariah May.
AEW presented the Battle of the Belts XII special from Adventist Health Arena in Stockton, CA on October 19. Jay took on the current Women’s Champion in the main event of the show.
May tried everything to defeat the 26-year-old and she even bit her arm at one point to gain advantage in the match. The current champion then started punishing Jay and she hit her with multiple suplexes and a DDT.
The ending of the bout saw Mariah May delivering a running knee to Jay and then rolling her up for the pin. Anna, however, kicked out at one and she then managed to roll up The Glamour for the surprise victory.
A win over the current champion means Anna Jay will now get an opportunity to challenge Mariah May for the title. The championship bout has been made official for the November 2 episode of AEW Collision.
Apart from this, the AEW special also saw Brian Cage & Lance Archer defeating the duo of Jon Cruz & Jack Cartwheel, while Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada beat Kyle O’Reilly.
Anna Jay has been a member of the AEW roster since 2019. During this time, she has been part of the Dark Order and Jericho Appreciation Society factions. She has not won any championships so far, however, and the young star will be looking for her first title in the company when she challenges May next month.
