Tony Khan Says He Has Never Met Shane McMahon In His Life

Tony Khan has denied having ever talked to Shane McMahon in his life.

The speculation of former WWE Owner Vince McMahon’s son joining the rival promotion was first started on the Grilling JR podcast. Jim Ross, who has worked with Shane extensively during his time in WWE, said that the idea was crazy enough that it might just work.

His podcast co-host Conrad Thompson then added fuel to the fire in a more recent episode of the show. He claimed that Shane had actually reached out to people within AEW to feel the situation out:

“There was a friend of ours, I shouldn’t say their name, but he went out of his way to text me and say, ‘Hey, that’s not as crazy as you think. I know for sure that Shane McMahon has reached out to wrestlers on the AEW roster to at least hypothetically discuss the idea.’”

The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter provided an update on the whole situation after speaking to Tony Khan himself. According to them, the AEW president claimed to have never met Shane McMahon in his life:

“Tony Khan’s comment was ‘I’ve never met him or talked to him in my life.’ One person noted to us that there was a conversation between McMahon and an ex-WWE talent in AEW and it was described as not a pitch to get in or anything, just two people chatting when McMahon said something to the effect of ‘Can you imagine if I walked out there on Dynamite?’, not as if he was pitching anything.”

It’s worth mentioning here that Tony Khan was never actually named in the original comment made by Thompson and the assumption is that Shane only talked to some talent within the promotion.

Shane McMahon was last seen during WrestleMania 39 where he wrestled in a match against The Miz. McMahon, however, tore his quad muscle early in the bout. This forced Snoop Dogg, who was at the ringside, to replace him in the bout. Snoop then won the match on Shane’s behalf. You can check out that match below:
