AJ Styles Injured In SmackDown Return Match

AJ Styles seemingly suffered an ankle injury during his SmackDown return match on tonight’s Bad Blood go home show from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.

The former World Champion was last seen during the Clash At The Castle: Scotland PPV in June. Acting as a heel, Styles challenged Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship but lost the fight.

The Phenomenal One turned face upon his return to WWE TV, however. He cut a promo on SmackDown saying that he regretted his actions of the last few months.

Styles was then interrupted by Carmelo Hayes and the two exchanged some harsh words. AJ challenged Hayes to a match on the show but Melo initially declined to compete.

LA Knight then came out to confront the two. The US Champion offered Carmelo a shot at his title if he could beat Styles in a match. The former NXT star then finally accepted the challenge.

Knight remained at the ringside as AJ Styles and Carmelo Hayes began their match. Hayes tried to pin the world champion a couple of times but Styles always kicked out.

The fight didn’t continue too long, however. AJ seemingly hurt his leg while delivering a shoulder breaker to his opponent. The referee called for the bell as Styles couldn’t compete anymore.

Ring announcer Alicia Taylor declared Carmelo Hayes the winner of the match. He didn’t get a chance to celebrate as LA Knight immediately took him down with a BFT.

The commentary team later provided an update on the status of Styles. They announced AJ had actually suffered an ankle injury and he has been taken to the local hospital for further evaluation.
