Claudio Castagnoli believes the recent time off from wrestling has helped Jon Moxley reconnect with himself and find his purpose in the sport.
The former AEW World Champion took a couple of months off during the Summer and returned to the company during the August 28 Dynamite. Mox has shown a completely new side of himself since coming back, being more ruthless and calculated than ever.
His BCC teammate recently had an interview with Rick Ucchino for The Takedown on SI. Discussing this new version of Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli said that Jon has regained his purpose:
“I feel he needed that time off to kind of reconnect with himself and find his purpose, so to speak, or regain his purpose.”
Castagnoli explained that before Mox returned to lead them into a rebellion, he had been feeling uneasy in his skin. Things have changed since Moxley came back and started leading the group again:
“I can’t speak for Jon, but I felt like the last couple months before he came back, you know we always have the ‘Be Real’ on our shirts, I didn’t really feel real. It felt like, okay, we’re just kind of going through the motions. Something was missing. With Jon, I can definitely tell that since he came back, he found that fire again,”
Jon Moxley originally maintained a distance from his BCC teammates upon his return and formed an alliance with Marina Shafir instead. The two spent the first couple weeks of their new partnership brutalizing many AEW roster members.
Claudio Castagnoli and Pac joined their mission at the All Out PPV when they turned on their friend and current AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson. This came after Bryan’s title defense against Jack Perry. Mox would go on to suffocate Bryan with a plastic bag, rendering him helpless and putting him on the shelf for a few days.
Jon Moxley has since earned the right to face Bryan in a match for the AEW title by defeating Darby Allin. The title match will be taking place at the upcoming WrestleDream PPV on October 12.
