Netflix has officially released the trailer for their documentary series on Japanese legend Dump Matsumoto dubbed ‘The Queen of Villains’
The show focuses on the legendary career of the wrestling veteran and how she became one of the most terrifying heels of the golden age of women’s pro wrestling in Japan.
The 5-episode series will be premiering on the streaming platform on September 19. It will also tell the story of teams like Chigusa Nagayo & Lioness Asuka known as Crush Gals and Jackie Sato & Maki Ueda known as the Beauty Pair:
Dump Matsumoto made her wrestling debut in 1980 and started competing for All Japan Women’s Pro Wrestling. She won her first title after defeating Lioness Asuka for the AJW Championship on January 8, 1983.
While she dropped the title back to Asuka on June 1, 1983, the rivalry between her and the tag team continued long after. During the time, she regularly teamed with WWE Hall of Famer Bull Nakano to even the odds against the Crush Gals.
She made a couple of appearances for WWE back in 1986 as well. Teaming with Nakano as The Devils of Japan, she wrestled Velvet McIntyre in two tag team matches. Dawn Marie was McIntyre’s partner for the first bout while Linda Gonzales teamed with her for the second match.
Matsumoto announced her retirement from wrestling in 1988. The legend has continued making occasional wrestling appearances since then and she has also appeared in a number of Japanese films.
