John Cena Says He Has Signed Contract Extension To Stay With WWE Beyond 2025

John Cena has confirmed that he has signed a contract extension to remain with WWE for a long time to come even as his in-ring career is coming to an end.

The 16-time world champion announced earlier this year that 2025 will be his last active year in wrestling. He hopes to compete across the globe throughout the year and retire once that tour is over.

This prompted the question for many if this will mean the end of Cena’s association with WWE too. The wrestling veteran answered this question during an interview with Club Shay Shay. He first claimed that WWE is his home:

“I have such a trustworthy relationship with them. Over two decades. I am a champion of the brand. I love the company. It is my home. They are my family.”

The Peacemaker star then revealed that he has already signed a contract extension with the company that will keep him around for a long time to come:

“Even after 2025, I’ve already signed an extension to remain a member of the WWE family for the near, mid, and long-term future. I don’t think there will be a beat of my heart where WWE blood doesn’t come out of it,”

John Cena made his wrestling debut in 1999 and got signed to a WWE development contract only two years later in 2001. After spending a year in the company’s development territory Ohio Valley Wrestling, Cena made his main roster debut in mid-2002.

The 47-year-old originally did not have a character and according to himself, he was expecting to get fired from the company. John, however, debuted a rapper gimmick during a Halloween-themed episode of SmackDown in 2002 and it became an instant hit.

The gimmick made him insanely popular with the fans leading to a face turn. When stars like Brock Lesnar, The Rock, and Stone Cold Steve Austin left the company, Cena was chosen as the next face of the promotion and the rest is history.
