Nia Jax believes that getting released from WWE was the best thing that ever happened to her because it restored her passion for wrestling.
The female performer was one of the many names that were let go by WWE during the pandemic. The November 2021 releases also included stars such as Keith Lee, Ember Moon, and Oney Lorcan.
During a recent sit-down interview with Cathy Kelley for WWE, Jax opened up about her feelings during her time away from the company. She admitted that it was a difficult thing to digest at first:
“It was probably the best thing that ever happened to me. At first, yes, it was difficult to sit there and realize that I won’t be out there entertaining everybody, on the road and enjoying the travels.”
While many other names such as Lee and Moon found new homes in AEW, Jax took the time off to work on her mental health. The time away from wrestling reignited her passion and made her a better performer upon her return to the company in September 2023:
“It actually helped restore my passion and love for wrestling. I felt like I was starting to lose a little bit of the ‘why?’ I tell people all the time it was one of the best things that happened to me. I felt like I reset Nia Jax. Now, I’m the best Nia Jax ever. I’m only getting better. I needed to take that little bit of time off and find myself again,”
Just in 2024, Nia Jax has won the Queen of The Ring tournament in May and defeated Bayley in August to become the Women’s World Champion. She has also earned praise from fans and industry veterans for her matches with the likes of Becky Lynch and Bianca Belair.
