Pat McAfee has confirmed that he will be taking a hiatus from his role on the RAW commentary team but he will be back early next year.
WWE confirmed during the August 19 episode of RAW that it will be Pat’s last show for a while. With Football Season starting, he will be returning to ESPN College Game Day.
The company highlighted McAfee’s departure with a video package on the show and the former NFL star also gave a speech thanking the fans for their support.
His partner Michael Cole later confirmed that McAfee won’t be gone for too long. He will return to the brand when the Monday Night show moves to Netflix in January next year.
The WWE programming is set to undergo some major changes in the coming months. All three of their TV brands RAW, SmackDown, and NXT will be moving networks under their new TV deal. The move will come with a lot of shake up including the commentary team.
WWE previously announced the signing of famed ESPN announcer Joe Tessitore. Tessitore made his first appearance for the company over the SummerSlam weekend.
During the appearance, it was announced that Joe will be joining the RAW announce desk from the September 2 episode of the show. Michael Cole would leave the brand at the same time and join SmackDown.
The SmackDown broadcast team currently consists of Wade Barrett and Corey Graves. At this time, it’s unknown if one of them will move to RAW to join Tessitore or if the officials will find a new face to join him on Monday Nights.
