Rey Fenix Withdraws From Indie Appearance Due To Personal Circumstances

Rey Fenix has cancelled one of his scheduled indie appearances next month amid rumors about the future of The Lucha Bros.

The duo of Fenix and Pentagon have been rumored to be looking to follow in the footsteps of Cody Rhodes and Jade Cargill and leaving AEW to join WWE.

So far there has been no official update from either of the wrestling stars about their future but a latest development might be a big hint for what they’re planning.

Independent promotion New Era Wrestling recently took on their Facebook and announced that Fenix has withdrawn from their upcoming event on September 27 due to personal circumstances.

All Elite Wrestling generally allows their talent to work with indie companies if they’re not booked for shows contrary to WWE which only allows talent to appear on promotions they approve specifically. So it appears to be a sign that the duo is expecting to be WWE bound by the time of the event.

The Lucha Brothers have been a staple of AEW programming since the very start of the promotion. They were officially signed by the company during the 2019 MGM Grand Pool Splash press conference.

The duo have won multiple championships in their 5 years with Tony Khan’s promotion. They have won the tag team titles once and also held the Trios Title with Pac.

Fenix had a run with the AEW International Championship back in 2023 as well when he defeated Jon Moxley to win the title at Dynamite: Grand Slam.
