Sami Zayn has reflected on the moment from his match with Bron Breakker on this week’s episode of Raw that went viral on the internet.
The Ultimate Underdog challenged the young star for the Intercontinental Championship on the show. The 2 out of 3 falls match was the main event of the episode.
Sami attempted a dive outside the ring during a spot in the bout but Breakker caught him mid-air. The IC Champion went on to crash his opponent through the barricades.
Reflecting on the spot on social media, the 40-year-old wrote that the moment encapsulates what he loves about wrestling. Not only does it highlight the difference of characters between the champion and the challenger but also the realism that attracts people to the sport:
“So much of what I love about the art of wrestling is encapsulated in this short clip: unique characters & the dynamics between them, the legitimate threat of serious injury & the skill it takes to narrowly avoid it, a collective emotional response from thousands of people sharing a moment in time, expressed uniquely by each individual experiencing it. It’s a beautiful thing.”
Sami Zayn had won the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 40. He ended the historic 666-day reign of Gunther to win the title for the fourth time.
He held the championship for 119 days before finally dropping the title to Bron Breakker during the SummerSlam PPV last month.
The wrestling veteran unfortunately lost the rematch for the belt on Raw so he will have to move from the title feud after the episode.
