Stone Cold Steve Austin has confirmed that WWE reached out to him for a WrestleMania 40 appearance earlier this year but he couldn’t make the show because of other commitments.

The wrestling legend recently had an interview with Adrian Hernandez where he talked about things such as being a cat dad, what it’s like being an off-road racer, and more.

During the interview, Austin was asked about the rumors that he was supposed to be a part of the WrestleMania 40 main event. The Texas Rattlesnake confirmted that he had conversations with the company about it:

“Oh, it was close. And they certainly reached out to me. We had conversations, but my wife and I had some things going on that I didn’t need to go to Philly at that time. But I have said I missed that Mania. And God dang, Philly was a good town for me back in the day, and I appreciate those fans.”

WrestleMania 40 saw Cody Rhodes challenging Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Championship in the main event of night 2.

The match was being contested under Bloodline Rules where outside interference was allowed. Fans were expecting some big names to be part of this showdown and Stone Cold Steve Austin was one of the names rumored for the event.

While Steve Austin ended up not making an appearance at the PPV, other legends such as John Cena and The Undertaker did show up. They helped take The Rock and the rest of the Bloodline out of the equation, allowing The American Nightmare to finally dethrone The Tribal Chief.
