Tony D’Angelo Ends Oba Femi’s Historic NXT North American Championship Reign

Tony D’Angelo has shocked the world by ending Oba Femi’s historic reign with the NXT North American Championship.

WWE’s development brand presented the second part of their CW Premiere episode this week from St. Louis, Missouri. The show had many notable moments including an appearance from hometown star and former World Champion Randy Orton.

One of the highlights of the show was Femi defending his North American Championship against D’Angelo. The ending of the bout saw Femi clearing the announce table to put his opponent through it.

Tony countered with a powerbomb however, and he went on to give a Spinebusters to the North American Champion through the announce desk. He brought Oba Femi back into the ring after this. While the champion tried to hit a spine buster of his own, D’Angelo countered and rolled him up for the pin.

Oba Femi’s Dominant Title Reign

Oba Femi won the latest NXT Breakout tournament at the brand’s New Year’s Evil special on January 2, 2024. The win earned him the right to challenge a champion of his choosing.

The 26-year-old cashed in his opportunity the very next week. He defeated Dragon Lee to become the new NXT North American Champion on January 9.

On October 6, Oba Femi made history by becoming the longest-reigning NXT North American Champion, beating Wes Lee’s 269-day record.

Femi’s own reign has now come to an end at 273 days and it’ll be interesting to see how long Tony D’Angelo  is able to hold on to the title.
