The doctors are optimistic about Adam Copeland’s recovery after the 50-year-old’s injury from the insane Double or Nothing 2024 spot.
The AEW star recently spoke to Sports Illustrated to provide an update after suffering a broken leg during his cage match with Malakai Black at the company’s latest PPV.
Copeland confirmed that his surgery went smoothly. While he is expecting a difficult rehab, the medical professionals are optimistic about him making a full recovery:
“My Achilles tear a few years ago led to my most difficult rehab, and I’m expecting more of that. I’m 50. I know what’s in front of me. But the surgery was successful, and the doctor was optimistic because my bones are healthy. It’s my seventh surgery, so I know the drill. We’ll see how my body cooperates.”
Adam Copeland mentioned that his biggest concern during the spot was keeping Black safe and the thought of getting injured never even crossed his mind:
“The albatross of always feeling like you can pull it off, it’s a blessing and a curse. That’s something I could have pulled off when I was 35. My brain is still telling me I’ve got this. ‘Just land and roll backwards,’ I told myself, which I did, but from 15 feet high, my 50-year-old tibia didn’t agree. When I landed, I knew it wasn’t the Achilles. So I thought, that’s good. I thought maybe I sprained it or it was a bone bruise. I got up and I ran, and I finished the match. I just didn’t realize I was doing it all on a broken leg.”
Adam Copeland successfully defended the TNT Championship against Malaki Black in a barbed wire steel cage match at the Double or Nothing PPV from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Paradise, Nevada on May 26.
The former WWE star revived his Brood gimmick for the extreme bout and we even saw the return of Gangrel for this match. Unfortunately for the wrestling veteran, he was stripped of the title after suffering a fractured tibia during the match.
