Darby Allin had been wrestling since 2014 but he gained fame only after being signed by AEW in 2019. After securing his spot in the elite lineup of former AEW Champions with a world title run this year, Allin has undeniably become one of the faces of this generation.
The man without fear recently spoke about how AEW has changed his life during his interview with Adrian Hernandez. Darby Allin revealed that he was able to help his parents retire because of the AEW gig, and said that the company has helped him achieve his lifetime goal of being mentally free:
“It’s insane. I can’t even… I had my parents retire because of this. I had, you know, my wife and me and her can live an actual life where we think about our future, if we have kids and everything like that. But it’s made me feel so mentally free. And I said earlier that’s my whole goal in life, is just freedom.
“I really feel everybody, if they truly, truly understood the beauty of this place, they would treat it with the respect it deserves. No one can create a Darby Allin. I am me. You can’t create me. There’s nothing I won’t do for this,”
Darby Allin also spoke up about the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door spot earlier this year, where he went face first into thumbtacks for a spot. The former AEW Champion said that the spot wasn’t actually as bad as people thought:
“No, it wasn’t that bad. The reason I made that face is because I had to blink to make sure a thumbtack didn’t get in my eyeball. I didn’t regret it.”
“It didn’t even hurt that bad. I was more thinking, I forgot, ‘Oh s**t, these are thumbtacks and they’re by my eyeball.’ I was just trying to make sure my eye was like, ‘Oh, see, my eyeball works still,’”
