Longtime WWE commentator Michael Cole has revealed that he has signed a new deal with the company.
The 57-year-old has been part of the wrestling promotion since 1997. Originally starting off as a backstage interviewer, Cole has climbed the corporate ladder through the years and he was named the Vice President of Announcing in 2020. The wrestling veteran is also the play-by-play announcer for the company’s flagship show SmackDown.
The WWE announcer provided an update on his future in sports entertainment during an interview with Sal Licata of WFAN. Michael Cole confirmed that he is not looking to retire anytime soon and that he has signed a new long-term deal with the company:
“I still feel like I have a lot left in me. I just signed a long-term deal with the company, I’ll be doing this for a few more years. I’ll be back on Netflix doing Monday Night Raw in January,”
Cole started his career working as a journalist for CBS Radio. During this time, he covered national matters such as the 1988 and 1992 presidential campaigns and the 51-day siege at the Branch Davidian compound.
The New York native became a full-time wrestling commentator when WWE launched the SmackDown brand in 1999. Cole has switched brands multiple times since then and has even gotten involved in WWE storylines on occasion.
His most recent switch came in September when SmackDown left Fox to move back to USA Network. He is expected to reunite with Pat McAfee when the Red Branded show debuts on Netflix in January 2025.
